Chicken Run

We took a trip to Colorado in April, 2001 with the goal of seeing all of the chickens. It was a VERY successful trip! In addition to the birds shown below, we also saw Ring-necked Pheasant and Scaled Quail. The Greater Sage Grouse and Greater Prairie Chicken leks were accessed through organized field trips run by the local communities of Wray and Walden in association with the state wildlife agency. They have a trailer/blind that they take to the leks. Groups are then taken to the blinds before dawn and are treated to "close up and personal" views of the courting birds for a few hours.
